My Product Creation Progress Report – Phase 1
As you might know from my previous posts, I am currently in very early stages of creating my first ever product so I thought it might be a good idea to write about it as I go along. I’m sure there are a lot of people around who haven’t created any products yet so I thought it might be useful to document what is involved and how I’ve gone about it – never know, it might be useful to someone!
I’m creating this product under the guidance of my mentor as part of the Partnership To Success training programme that I am on. I think having a mentor is going to make a huge difference as I can ask any questions I have (which I’m sure will be a lot!) and just check with him that I’m doing the right thing. I would be pretty lost with all of it if I had to just give it a go on my own!
What I Have Done So Far
As mentioned already, I am still in early stages of creating this product, but I suppose this is only edition no.1 of my progress report! But I think I’ve got things going nicely.
Picked A Niche. First of all, I selected a niche using the methods I wrote about in my post about how to choose a profitable niche. I was debating between a few potential niches but I’ve now decided that the niche for my first product will be…. *drum rolls*… Traffic Generation! I am very passionate about finding different ways of creating traffic to my website and I always strive to find ways that are not necessarily the most obvious ones but work like a charm when you get them right. So by using the methods in my previous post, I have assessed that there is a need for my niche in the market and that it is also profitable.
Research. I have done quite a bit of research on my chosen niche already but I’m still planning to do a lot more. I want to get this product right so I don’t want to rush the research process at all. I want to learn as much as I possibly can so that I can make sure my product is the best I can do.
I already have a few traffic products that I have purchased in the past and I’ve been going through them to just learn more about my niche. I must point out here, that I’m obviously only using other people’s products for research purposes and nothing else – it goes without saying that this product will be all my own handwriting.
I’ve also started to actively read blogs that are predominantly focusing on traffic generation. You can find these blogs easily by using Google (search for your niche + blog). Once you’ve found a good blog, make sure you become a regular there and also check out the blogs of those people who have left comments. Chances are you will find many useful blogs in your chosen niche this way.
What I’m Going To Do Next
For a little while longer I’m going to focus on research and information gathering. I’m taking notes of all the research I’m doing – while I have a good memory, I don’t trust my brain to retain all the information I’m coming across so I’m writing things down like a madman as I go along. Here are a few things I’m going to be focusing on next:
Forums. I’m going to research any forums that have discussion on going about my niche. There are a couple of forums I’m already on and I’m going to take some time to focus on traffic-related threads and the information and advice I can gather from them. But I’m sure there are other forums out there that can be useful, so I’m going to be researching them.
PLR. I was thinking that it might be a good idea to purchase some quality PLR products to help with my research. PLR stands for Private Label Rights and they are basically products where the author gives you a license to most or all of their work on the product. The license is determined by the author and you obviously must follow it.
Keyword Research. It might be a good idea to just do some general keyword research on Google to see what else I can find on traffic generation. I want to find out what other people in my niche are doing, what kind of products they are creating and how they are marketing and selling them etc.
I think these methods are going to keep me quite busy now for a while but I’m always on the lookout for more useful tips so over to you! Hit me with your best tips – what other methods do you think I should be using in my research phase?
