10 Tips To Become A Successful Blogger
Most of us bloggers have asked this question one time or another – what do I need to do to become successful at blogging? How do other people do it? You’ve set up your blog and it looks great. You write on it on a regular basis but the traffic just isn’t coming in and neither are the comments. Luckily there are quite a few things you can do to make sure you are one of those people who have a successful blog.
1. Be Yourself
This is one of the basic ones for me. Be who you are and write in your own unique style. Trying to be someone else is not any better online than it is in real life, it always pays off to let your own personality to shine through. This also lets your readers to get to know you and what you’re all about.
2. Discipline & Commitment
For some people blogging is a hobby, it’s something that they do for fun when they feel like it. But for those of us who are doing it as a business, it sometimes takes some serious commitment and discipline to keep it going. It’s great when you have days when the writing just flows but there might be days when that’s not the case at all. In fact, it can be a real struggle to come up with anything decent. But as you’re running a business, you can’t always just sit on things and wait for that inspiration to come, your readers are waiting for your next post and you can’t let them down. This is where commitment and discipline are really measured.
It’s also a good idea to make the most of those good writing days when writing a brilliant post is like a walk in the park. Write a few posts on a day like this and schedule them for later.
3. Publish Your Best Work – Every Time
Every time you publish new content make sure it is always the best you can come up with. Take your time to perfect it, don’t rush it out the door just because you want it to be published quickly. It’s definitely better to take the necessary time and put in the effort even if it means your post will be published a bit later than you initially intended. Make sure what you write is unique and valuable to your readers.
4. Use Images
Here’s another chance to be unique. Images are a chance to give your blog that special oomph that is all your own. They also make the post easier to read by breaking up the text and are generally much more attention-grabbing than a post without any images. Just make sure you don’t use copyrighted images so always check the license first. Or better yet, use your own photos.
5. Learn From Top Bloggers
Find out who are the best and most successful bloggers in your niche and take a look at what they are doing with their blog. How often do they post? What kind of content do they publish? How do they interact with people? What else do they offer? Don’t copy but read, learn and take advice on board.
6. Monetize Your Blog
You should monetize your blog the moment you start it really, there is no reason to delay this. The first thing to do is install Google AdSense to your account. This won’t be ground-breaking amounts of money or anything in the early days but it can be quite motivating to see some money being generated from your blog. Other good ways of monetizing your blog are to offer, for example, consulting services or add some links to your own products/affiliate products to your blog.
7. Internal Linking
Make sure you include some links to your previous posts or other pages on your site in your post. Search engines love this and it also means your readers are more likely to spend more time on you blog and read other posts as well as the one they initially came to read. Don’t go overboard with linking though as otherwise your post might be seen as spam. Just link to what is relevant.
8. Comment Other Blogs
This is one of the best ways to drive traffic to your blog. Blogging as a business is a very social thing, you need to get yourself out there if you haven’t already! Follow blogs in your niche and make useful and valuable comments and leave a backlink to your site.
While traffic to your blog is the obvious benefit, the perhaps even more important one is the relationships you form by interacting with fellow bloggers. Many of them also visit your blog and leave a comment in return. It’s actually wonderful to see how quickly these relationships can be formed! Aside from business benefits, many have also made life-long friends through blogging interaction.
9. Promote Your Blog
Just because you’ve written it doesn’t mean anyone is going to see it. You need to get your post out there! Promote, promote, promote. Tell the people on your email list, share your post via social media (do this more than once and at different times of the day), use services like JustRetweet to get more people to share it and join blogging communities like BizSugar. Also make sure that it’s is super easy for your readers to share your post by having all the usual social media sharing links next to the post.
10. Take On Guest Posting Opportunities
If you come across a blog in your niche that you really like and find useful, have a look if they accept guest posts. If they do, you should definitely take this opportunity. It’s a fantastic chance to get your post in front of a wider audience and to build up your reputation as a serious blogger.
It’s also a great idea to accept guest posts from others to your blog. It’s another effective way to get new traffic to your site, as the author will have it in their interest to promote the post as well. But more importantly again, guest posting goes a long way in building those all-important relationships.
